Monte Clérigo is a a vast sandy/river beach in the portuguese region of Algarve. The beach stretches north-south direction and has northwest orientation.
Description of Monte Clérigo
Its northwest orientation makes it a relatively reliable spot, and can have surf during all year. Big winter swells can make it become big, but being a very exposed beach break they can also make it very messy and not surfable.
Expect some waves coming around mid tide. Best swells get into this beach if they come northwest.
In the southernmost part of this beach there’s a small reef that gets exposed during low tide. Usually the waves break in the very center of the beach (however it may change if sand banks move during winter, so better double check for youself).
Even though Monte Clérigo almost always offers good surf (also when there are no waves in other spots around) it is known to have not crowds.

Services in the beach
On this beach there are the following services:
- a small settlement of summer houses
- picnic area with benches and tables
- small parking after crossing the river
The different businesses here are very seasonal, so do not expect to find restaurants and main services available during winter months (just one or two may be still working).
Access to the spot
Easy access with the car. You have parkings in front of the beach and along the downhill coming from Aljezur town.
