Consolação is located on the south edge of the bay of Peniche, the same bay where Supertubos is located. The spot gets its name from the small fort located on top of the cliff on this part of the bay. Consolação has two main peaks: one only for experienced surfers and another one for more intermediate surfers and if the swell is smaller. Let’s check it out.
Main peaks at Consolação
The two main peaks at Consolação are the following:
- The right wave at Consolação breaks in front of the fort over a rocky reef and it’s only working with big swells. To arrive to the peak you need to go down the rocks and paddle out from there. The combination of reef + rocks + tricky access + only working on big swells yes, you get it: it means it is a wave just for experienced surfers. You must be careful of rocks and urchins, specially when low tide makes it shallow. Best waves (and even some barrels) will form around low to mid tide.
- There’s another wave breaking into the bay and arriving almost till the beach, offering a consistent left that is also more gentle and needs less swell to work. This wave is also suitable for less experienced surfers since it is more forgiving and allows more mistakes. In this area you may also find some peaks appearing on the beach. Best tide on this side is also mid-low.
The spot only works with big swells basically because is protected from the north swells by the peninsula of Peniche, so Consolação will only wake up with big northwest or medium west swells.

Access and services at the spot
Consolação is located in the south edge of the bay of Peniche, surrounded by a small town without service apart from one or two cafés. You have a small parking in front of the fort and also you can park at the nearby streets of the town itself. Peniche town is 7 minutes driving from here.
