Surf spot description

Praia do Magoito is located north of Praia das Maçãs and south from the area of Ericeira, and is known for its rugged cliffs and beautiful scenery, wide sandy beach, and exposed north-west orientation. This exposure allows the beach to pick up plenty of swell throughout the year, making it a reliable option when conditions are small or during summer days.

Description of Praia do Magoito

Praia do Magoito is a beach break that offers both lefts and rights. However, the most reliable wave is the one located on the north side, breaking over a rock platform and offering a nice and long right-hander. This wave wakes up with its best quality during big northwest swells and is a great peak for advanced surfers that are not scared of steep drops and bigger waves.

During small swells, Magoito offers many peaks along the beach and the wave can feel soft and playful, but as the size increases, it quickly becomes heavier and more demanding both in paddling and in surfing level.

On the right day, Praia do Magoito can deliver fast sections, steep walls, and occasional barrel opportunities, especially for advanced surfers that are comfortable with heavier beach break energy. The right-hander on the north side of the bay (right in front of the parking and the small café/restaurant) will give you a lot of fun if it’s working.

Mid tide usually provides the best conditions.

Crowds

On good days you’ll find a healthy line-up of locals and visiting surfers, but there’s usually enough space to avoid congestion, and locals are nice here.

Access and services

Access to Praia do Magoito is easy. If you have a car, there’s plenty of parking available near the clifftop above the beach. From there, a path leads down to the beach, offering direct access to the surf.

Facilities are limited at Magoito. There are no surf shops or rentals on the beach itself, but a restaurant/café operates overlooking the beach from the cliff. It might be closed for some weeks during winter. For accommodation, supermarkets, and other services, go to the town of Magoito (2 minutes driving inland).
