Foz do Lizandro is located in the municipality of Ericeira, in the border with its neighbour town Carvoeira. With its white sand and crystal-clear waters, the beach is ideal for beginners and intermediate surfers, as well as seasoned surfers sometimes. It is surrounded by cliffs and a beautiful landscape, making it also a great place for families and sunbathers to enjoy the summer sunshines and relax.
Foz de Lizando does not offer amazing surf but waves can be quite consistent at Limipicos. And also because it is quite a open beach break, it gets too messy easily: while some other spots around can hold big swells without becoming totally unsurfable, this does not happen at Foz de Lizandro.
Foz de Lizandro is as well a bit a surprise of a spot: since the winter swells can move the sand and the river can discharge a lot of sediment due rain accumulation, sandbanks may appear to offer waves . For example in summer 2020 Foz de Lizandro had a big sandbank in front of the river mouth that offered small fun waves on mid-low tide. With a couple big swell during autumn, that sand moved and the sandbanks were gone.
Main peaks in this spot
The beach consists of multiple peaks along its shore and is divided into three sections. To the south side of the beach, there is usually a left-breaking wave. The middle section is an A-frame with lefts and rights that not always works. On the north side, there are two reef breaks: Lage dos Tubos and Limipicos, being the latest of them the most consistent one.
So we would say there are two main peaks at Foz de Lizandro:
- The main one is known as Limipicos and is next to the rock wall that you will see on the right side of the beach. The beach there is actually reef, that’s why this peak is almost always working and offers fun right waves for intermediante and begginers.
- The second main peak in around the mouth of the river Lizandro, where usually there are sand banks that can offer fun waves and even barrels only available for seasoned surfers. Since the sandbanks change a lot, we cannot guarantee you were to go and where exactly the waves are breaking, go give it a check yourself around mid tide.
